Registered Nurse-Nurse Practitioner/ACOS

Duties Include but not limited to the following:
The ACOS functions as an administrator, educator, and consultant using management theory in collaboration with the Chief of Staff, the Associate Director of Patient Care Services, Service Chiefs in the Specialty Care Service Line and other Service Lines throughout the Healthcare Center. The ACOS has a broad knowledge of VHA as well as other departments within the healthcare system. He/she ensures integrated goals and priorities are established and met. The ACOS collaborates with service chiefs in the development and execution of the overall Medical Center strategic and business plan. The ACOS is involved in program development. He/she oversees budget and fiscal management, and human resource management. Is responsible and accountable for the overall leadership, policy planning, budget, operations and performance of specialty care. The ACOS is responsible for providing effective and efficient clinical operations, access, consult management, and other pertinent SAIL performance metrics. Assist teams in carrying out the functions and activities expected of them. Contribute ideas and recommendations to establish standards of care, policies and objectives for the enhancement of nursing and clinical healthcare delivery organization-wide. Assist in creating policies centered around improving customer service, clinical programing and clinic administrative activities. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to establish and maintain clinical programs that cross service lines and/or disciplines, influencing organizational mission and healthcare delivery. Collaborate with other key staff in the healthcare network to implement Western Market Initiatives, supporting the vision of becoming a true clinical network that is poised to own and coordinate Veteran care and working to make the VA a provider of choice for our Veterans. Leverage available technology, expanding convenient options and supporting innovative ideas to help advance health care. Has clinical oversight and administrative management of the Specialty Care Service Line (SSL). The service line includes Audiology, Optometry, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Urology, Podiatry, Pulmonary, Neurology, Speech Pathology and Dentistry and specialties that support Western Market initiatives. The ACOS is also directly responsible for management of administrative and clinical operations for staff in Radiology, Laboratory Medicine, Employee Health, and Compensation and Pension Departments. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in supervisory and clinical leadership position preferred. Demonstrated self-direction in decision-making and clinical judgement. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills especially with public speaking. Ability to work effectively in an Interdisciplinary Team. Ability to lead, prioritize, delegate, manage time, and meet deadlines. Ability to meet and sustain competencies and pass inter-rater reliability tests related to selected criteria as determined by the VISN and Central Office. Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
