Program Support Assistant (Caregiver Support Program)

The position requires the incumbent to be highly organized, and, have comprehensive working knowledge of specialized and complex subject matter as it relates to the Caregiver program's policies, procedures, and health care practices. The incumbent must have a broad working knowledge of quality assurance philosophy and practices. The incumbent will possess the ability to create templates and spreadsheets necessary for statistical gathering, analysis, and display. The incumbent must exercise independent judgment, demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills with individuals and groups including patients, professionals, and upper level of management. The incumbent will understand and comply with patient and service confidentiality. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for sending CSP letters of interest, application packets, and general correspondence to CSP participants. Performs typing work using word processing software and equipment. Types specialized terminology such as from fields of medicine, science, and/or law and utilizes special reference materials such as medical or legal dictionaries or recordings. Incumbent works closely with Caregiver Support Supervisor, CSP staff, and Medical Social Work staff, and other facility secretaries. Schedules staff appointments, coordinates meetings, and/or schedules conferences. Provides general calendar maintenance clerical services. Screens calls and visitors, answering most questions and completing most business involving established policy or routine matters. He/she ensures that telephone calls, office visitors, and patients are screened and referred to appropriate individuals in a cooperative, considerate, and helpful manner. Performs work involving the collection and/or tracking of data in support of the Caregiver Support Program and the medical center. Tracks/coordinates monthly home visits for Caregiver Support Program. Tracks/schedules CSP participants for required recurring assessments. Maintains personnel records, training records, leave schedules for CSP and serves as back-up time-keeper for Medical Social Work Department, and facilitates travel arrangements. Work Schedule:

Experience:
One (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Program Support Assistant position, and that is in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in federal service to qualify at the Grade 5. Specialized experience for this position would consist of:
preparing letters and general correspondence using specialized terminology (medical, scientific, legal); performing typing work using word processing software and equipment; extracting information from various sources for use in reports and/or action items; scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings and/or conferences; screening calls and visitors; maintaining records, performing time keeping duties OR Substitute of Education for Experience - 4 years above high school:
Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable for this position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED. OR Combining Experience and Education - Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying for this position. Note:
Only education beyond the second year is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement at the GS-5 grade level. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED. Physical Requirements:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits at a desk to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts, or driving an automobile, etc. Some occasional light lifting during and in support of outreach events may be required. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
